It came at a good time: I was experiencing a hormonal breakout of EPIC (oil-slick) proportions, made worse by stress (my folks were stranded in a foreign airport), some very bad news (a death in the family) and the realisation that a bestie of mine was really leaving Ireland to go back to South Africa. It didn't help that my usual Holy Grail cleanser had been discontinued and replaced with a product that was more expensive but contained cheaper ingredients (WTF Boots? Really?!?!).
Rant over: So anyways, this little bottle of blue soap-free gel was a bit good luck. I wasn't expecting too much, but it was all I had to get me through a rough patch, and I have only heard good things about Avène products...
Avène says: " an extremely gentle and soap free antibacterial cleanser Cleanance is the one stop spot treatment for acne. To treat oily, blemish prone skin and help eliminate impurities sebum secretion needs to be regulated, accumulated cells must be eliminated, bacteria proliferation avoided and most importantly skin inflammation soothed..." and Avène recon Cleanance will do just that.
While its not exactly a "one stop spot treatment", it is a very good start. It is very gentle, pH balanced and cleans combination/oily skin nicely. Its not something I would use for make-up removal, I don't think this is tough enough to tackle heavy slap, but this would be fab for the second cleanse.
Not for Dry Skins... trust me |
My preference is to use it in the mornings. The lovely soft, fresh smell and gentle lather (if it actually foams and makes masses of bubbles, then you are using too much product) works in a lovely gentle way to remove any traces of night cream that may remain and wake me up. I like the little dispensing lid too... its not fiddly and you don't have to worry about losing the lid.
closed up, with no chance of leaking... |
The blue gel is liquid enough to ensure that you will get every single last drop out of the generous 200ml Bottle, and given how much product you need to clean the visage, this bottle should last you aaaaaaaages. And its blue, even the Hubs is using it, once I cautioned him on how much to use...
twist the top and it opens up... no mess no fuss |
I wet my face, use a bit less than a 5cent piece dribble of product onto a wet hands, lather and massage into my face and neck and then I take it off using a warm wet face cloth, followed with a toner, spot treatment and a moisturiser, it seems to help keep my T-zone in check nicely.
you really do only need THIS much |
Cleanance also seems to be helping with the multiple Mt Vesuvius (Vesuvi-i??) that tried to permanently change the topography of my jaw line, helping to cleanse without drying drastically, but they deffo don't seem as big or swollen, red and angry after using the cleanser.
This would suit Combination or Oily skins, its gentle enough to cleanse without stripping, and all of the fantastic ingredients work nicely to help with breakouts, to prevent infection and to sooth inflammation. And I think in the scheme of cleansers €15.25 is a very reasonable price for a mahoosive 200ml bottle of product that should last you at least 3 months (you really do use very little).
The only negative thing about this is the availability for me: I don't have an Avène stockist in Louth, and I need to drive some ways to my nearest stockist... but this is something I am going to drive a few miles to re-purchase.
